Artist Statement:

I want people to see the world from a different perspective. Personally I am an out of the box thinker, maybe even an out of the universe kind of thinker. I want my viewers to see something new and odd in the way that life is experienced. Another part of my art making is being an advocate for those that cannot speak.  A main facet of life that I am interested in is the way that the human body is used in photography.

My interest in how the body is displayed in a photograph stems from how the body is shown photography history. Some of the earliest uses of photography were to photograph their dead. It has also always fascinated me that there are many different meanings that can come out of a photograph of a human body through different lighting and angles. Somehow my work always somehow relates to my personal life experiences.

Through my series that glamorizes scars I search for the meaning of human experiences. Scars to me are like the subtle mark making of a painter. However instead of a person painting these lines, life is. Life here is the real artist and we are all just canvases waiting to feel the soft touch of a paintbrush. Scars are the experience of what it means to be living. There are so many horrible and awesome things that happen throughout the short lives we live. I want to document the subtle marks that life has to leave on us.

My sculpture work on the other hand seeks to be an advocate for those that cannot speak. I have a deep connection to animals. They love more than any human could ever feel. However as humans we believe we are at the top of the food chain and animals are just there. Humans torture and slaughter animals on a daily basis and say it is for nourishment. I want to raise awareness that these animals are thinking and feeling beings just as much as humans are.

The work that I make is always crossing the borders between different mediums. I feel as though I can better communicate my feelings and ideas by combining a variety of art forms. My personal favorite is combining 2-D and 3-D processes. It blends this weird line between different realities. I want others to see this different reality.
